A story about Life and a family of five, Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien and their three sons- Jack, R.L. and Steve. At first glance, the movie has a Classical and Sci-Fi touch bordering on philosophical thinking, as it leaves the viewers deciding on their own what the movie is trying to say. Filled with scenes from nature, animals and scenes normally overlooked in our everyday lives; even dating back to prehistoric animals, served with classical and ambient music that makes you just want to lay out your yoga mats and find your zen.
As you start to think that the whole movie will just be like a National Geographic documentary being shown in AV rooms back in Grade School; dialogues and the acting start after you've been given enough time to "zone out". But just because this movie does not take on a 'typical movie' set up, I must admit, this turned out to be one of those kinds, that makes you think even after you've left the cinema.
The movie will revolve around the relationship of the family- How Mr. O'Brien becomes the iron fist in the family, and Mrs. O'Brien becomes the velvet glove for the boys to run to and take comfort. The father is the disciplinarian, only wanting what he thinks is best for his sons. While their mother consoles them from their father's harsh way of discipline and introduces the boys to a life centered on God. It deals with the struggles of a starting family in a small town in Texas; how they survive and find happiness with each other. The film also shows how the three brothers grow up with different personalities but completely complimenting each other. Through rough times and the happiest, the family sticks together and eventually discover for themselves what their purpose in life is as one of the boys pass away. It is with this loss that the family begins to ponder what their lives are meant for, what are they supposed to do to feel better from the grief, how do they get their lives back just like it was in the 50's- simple and carefree.
If you are looking forward to a film with action or drama with different scenes and effects, this movie might not be for you. But if a movie that leaves it all with its viewers to decide for themselves what it's all about and what they want it to mean is what you're up for, this is perfect.
